Our Story
Dick’s BBQ Sauce is an ode to Grandpa Dick, who founded the original recipe and to my mother who passed the recipe on to me and taught me how to cook.
The Original recipe was first cooked by Grandpa Dick in the 1950’s as something sweet and tasty his kids would enjoy. It has been enjoyed ever since by family and friends for over 70 years. Already a living legacy, Dick’s BBQ Sauce is now, for the first time ever, available to the general public to enjoy for themselves.
Our train logo and theme possesses just as much history and significance to the Dick’s BBQ Sauce story as the name itself. My Grandfather would always tell us stories about when he was a kid in the 1940’s growing up in Illinois and how he would hop the freight trains with his friends and ride them from town to town and often up to Chicago. He did this so regularly, he was on a first name basis with the train crews. He even had stories about the time he hopped freight trains and hitched his way out west to California, down in to Mexico, and back.
Aside from my Grandfather’s wandering tales of adventure, my Dad worked as a conductor for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad for 50 years and my brother has worked as an engineer on the Norfolk & Southern Railroad for 20 years.
Dick's BBQ Sauce is truly an American Original born upon the steel rails.
